Parents will be asked to sign a Parent Pledge, requiring parents to be positive and encouraging to all players, and trusting of our qualified staff. Participants will be expected to attend practices, games and workouts regularly. Parents do not have the same attendance requirements. Sometimes we will hold closed practices or ask parents to vary their attendance routines and behavior in effort to give kids and team members the space they need to learn without feeling pressure to please family members and spectators. Adults in our program must accept that kids do not play sports to win. They do not play sports to entertain their parents by playing in games as often as possible. According to a recent study covered in the New York Times, kids play sports for the following reasons: 1) to have fun 2) to be with their friends and 3) to learn and improve.
