Confused about all of your options? Yes, it’s confusing. Read on for breakdown.
THE CONSERVATIVE APPROACH to “All-Inclusive”: If you see any Grade 5 or higher workout where there’s a fall SAT or SUN option, you can pay for fall only but you are not guaranteed a spot in winter session (all-inclusive fall-winter option often sells out early). Therefore if you like our program, tell us immediately and we will prorate your fall Sat or Sun workout fee toward the All-Inclusive. In the All-Inclusive, participants have access to our Sat or Sun workouts in the fall — both days, one or none at all — when attendance is not taken but encouraged. Starting in November, attendance is taken on Sat and Sun.
BOOST – Weeknight workouts: These are NOT included in the all-inclusive. They fall in a separate budget. WINTER BOOST is included for grades 5-6 only. This means during winter, All-Inclusive Participants Grade 5-6 have the option (not mandatory but encouraged) to jump into a Boost workout during the hoops season. Kids enjoy these sessions and improve their overall conditioning for weekend workouts and games.
Grades Pre-K through 3: These programs are split into separate FALL and WINTER and SPRING. There is a different cost for each program. Please note that winter sessions typically sell out early while fall sessions tend to be smaller. We cannot guarantee a fall participant a place in the winter program. Kids go through drills and skills then scrimmage at the end of each session.
Grade 4: All grade 4 participants must pay for Sept-March even if they have a fall conflict and cannot make it to the contained (Sat or Sun) weekly workout Sept-Oct. We start taking attendance in November, which is officially basketball season. Heavy practice emphasis Nov-Dec, then games vs. each other and guests Jan-March. This program is contained in that all games/practices will stay in the designated time slot each week with an occasional exception where we invite in our guest teams and we need a little more time and flexibility (adding an hour to our regular slot). We have kids sign up for SEPT-MARCH because we must rent the gyms for this entire slot. Therefore we reserve the slot for a limited number of participants and don’t want to be in a situation where we have to tell a fall participant that there is no room for him or her in the winter session.
Grades 5-6: All-Inclusive allows participants entry to our optional fall workouts on Saturday and/or Sunday; and team preparation time Nov-Dec. where Sat and Sun practices and scrimmages are mandatory. Manhattan-based GBA League play (vs. Motion teams and other outside teams in our league) begins in January, which means your child will participate in one practice and one game per weekend (sometimes we may book two games during in-season play). ALSO in included in this program is an optional but encouraged weeknight BOOST workouts at our upper east and upper west side locations. Typically participants who engage in three events per week during basketball season see marked improvement. Boost is an excellent opportunity to work on individual skills and conditioning during the team season.
NOTES ON GRADE 5-6 SCHEDULE FOR WINTER: Please note that every effort is made to keep your weekend game slot consistent with your Nov-Dec practice slots; however, the scheduling process is one giant headache that takes 3 people to complete and then there are changes that take place each week that are often beyond our control. Teams need to be broken up first (in late October), Nov-Dec practice slots are set; then we take a crack at GBA League play game schedule Jan-March. If you have major consistent conflicts that interfere with practice and/or games, you must do everything in your power to respect our rules about attendance AND let us know just in case we can help by putting your child on a team that practices consistently in a slot that works every weekend. Keep in mind we will have about 300+ active participants at the time you make this request, but we will do what we can to make it work as long as it’s a reasonable request and you are doing your part to teach your child what it means to honor and respect a team commitment.
Grades 7-8: All Inclusive allows participants entry to all of our optional but encouraged fall workouts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Mandatory team preparation is Nov.-Dec. Expect some scrimmages in December, but we don’t rush because we feel we need 8-10 practices before teams are ready for organized play, which takes place Jan-March in our GBA league (vs. Motion teams and other outside teams in our league). One practice, one game per weekend (maybe two games since we are in the thick of the season). If you have any further questions, you can send an email through our contacts page. Please do your best to re-read everything and also note that it’s not possible at this time for the office to take registration over the phone with a credit card. We encourage everyone to go through our on-line registration system because in doing so, you will be providing all of the info in one file, which allows us more time to focus on coaching and being with the kids as opposed to chasing down paperwork and details.
We look forward to an exciting and rewarding season.
Thank you for your interest and support.
